When it comes to building muscle as quickly as possible, we all want to know the “how-to.”

How to get a shredded 6-pack before a weekend at the beach. How to bench 300 lbs. within 1-year. How to build a massive back in no time flat.

And honestly, all of those questions can be answered…

In fact my book, Bulk Up Fast (grab your free copy here), is dedicated to helping you achieve the most amount of success with your physique in the shortest amount of time possible, while also giving you the tools you need to continue chiseling away at your dream physique for the long-haul.

But when it comes down to it, even when you implement everything I’ve laid out for you in Bulk Up Fast, there’s one simple factor that will make or break your gains

Consistency is at the core of your muscle building journey…

Without it, all of your progress will cave in on itself, but with it, you can build a physique that’s truly awe inspiring.

Consistency And Your Goals

A well renowned author and speaker named John C. Maxwell, talks about consistency like this:

“Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.”

I love that quote because I think it really uncovers the importance of consistency…

Consistency won’t lead to average results in any area of your life, and specifically, in regard to your physique…

Instead, consistency will lead to great achievements.

If you’re only consistent with your nutrition 5 out of 7 days of the week, you won’t achieve a great physique.

If you skip out on one gym session every week (say you go to the gym 4 times when your program recommends 5), you’ll surely fail to reach your dream physique in the shortest amount of time.

If you cut corners in your training and nutrition, you’ll cut away at what could be awe inspiring.

But on the other end, if you consistently train, practice good nutrition, and recover well, there’s no ceiling on where that consistency can take you.

How To Be Consistent

I talk a lot about consistency in my free book, Bulk Up Fast (grab it here).

Because it truly is the one simple factor that will make or break your gains.

And here’s the deal…

You’re in charge of how consistent you are. No one else is going to be consistent for you. And no one else cares about your goals as much as you do, either. The ball is in your court.

So how do you do it?

How do you stay consistent day in and day out to build your best physique in the shortest amount of time?

Try these 3 consistency builders.

It’s Just What You Do

Think about your daily routine with me for a second.

make-or-break-your-gainsWhat do you do every day when you wake up?

Brush your teeth? Make yourself some coffee? Journal?

There are some things you do that are just natural, aren’t there? A morning wouldn’t be complete if you didn’t do those things, because, well, they’re just a part of what you do every day…

In other words, you’re consistent with that particular routine.

You need to look at your workouts and nutrition the very same way: It’s just what you do…

It’s a part of your everyday life to wake up, drink some coffee, have a meal, and get to the gym. If you don’t do it, your day isn’t complete.

When you adjust your attitude towards training and hitting your daily nutritional goals from “It’s something I like to do,” to simply, “It’s just what I do,” your training and nutrition will become engrained into the fabric of your life – or in other words, you’ll be consistent.

Change Your Mindset

Your mindset is important when it comes to being consistent…

And mindsets can change.

Those times when you start to feel less motivated to hit the gym aren’t due to causes outside of you as much as they’re due to your thought patterns of your mind.

When you have a thought at 5am that goes something like, “I’m too tired to hit the gym today,” you have a choice to either continue entertaining that thought, hit the snooze button and go back to bed, or you can decide that being tired won’t kill you, get out of bed, and turn on the coffee machine.

Correcting negative mindsets will keep you consistent day in and day out.

Stay Motivated

What’s your motivation for building a better physique?

What’s the why behind what you’re trying to achieve at the gym…

To remain consistent, you need to remember that why.

Plaster pictures of your favorite physiques all over your house: on your fridge, by your nightstand, in your supplement cabinet…

Write out your why on a group of sticky notes and put them next to your alarm clock, on the dashboard of your car, and near your stovetop…

Day in and day out, remind yourself of your goals and why you want to achieve those goals.

The more often you reflect on your why the more consistent you’ll be in the gym and with your nutrition.
